RKFRR 5th Grade Inspired by Amanda Gorman’s, “The Hill We Climb”

5th graders  from RK Finn Ryan Road Elementary have created beautiful prose and artwork, inspired by Amanda Gorman’s poem “The Hill We Climb” and is now on display as a collage in their school.

Ms Gorman, an American poet, activist and the first National Youth Poet Laureate, wrote  “The Hill We Climb” after witnessing the siege on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. She presented this work to the world on January 20th at the presidential inauguration of Joe Biden.

Ms Amy Sidoti, the 5th grade ELA and Social Studies teacher, introduced the poem for students to read and annotate – using it as inspiration “to write about how we could make our nation a better place.  How we can “be brave enough to be it”.”  Students then illustrated their writing as a way to express their commitment to “be the light”.

Here are just a few of the pieces of art on display.
