Principal Madden’s Weekly Message—Week of April 25, 2022

I hope you were able to enjoy the school vacation with your children. It will be nice to see everyone back at school.

Photos

This week’s photos show some fun times at the 4th grade field trip to Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary before the break. Also, we had some fabulous workers at our tree planting on Saturday, April 16! Thanks to all who volunteered!

COVID Updates

We did have a couple of positive COVID cases the week before the break. Fingers crossed that we can keep our numbers low.

I just wanted to make sure that everyone understands the process for positive COVID cases at this point. We find out about positive cases through Thursday testing, parent notification, or school testing (if a student has symptoms and permission to test). If there is a positive case, everyone in that class has to mask (inside) for 5 days after exposure. Caregivers and staff associated with that class get notified.

Placement Plans for Next Year

It is hard to believe that we are starting to think about the 2022-2023 school year, but I wanted to let you know that we will conduct the process of class placement similarly to the way we have done the last several years. Class placement decisions will be made by the end of this school year, and your child’s teacher for next year will be communicated to you with their end of year report card. Also, we plan to have a brief gathering of next year’s classes and teachers on the last day of school. We have found that this process eliminates some of the summer anxiety that can occur by waiting until the end of the summer. I have received positive feedback about the process from students, teachers, and families.

I will be working carefully with teachers to create class groupings that work well together and build positive, productive learning communities. Families cannot select teachers, and I know that we will all work well together to ensure a good year ahead for all of our students. All of the teachers at our school are committed to developing positive relationships and nurturing academic success. However, if you feel that you have necessary information to share with me before this process begins, please do not hesitate to contact me by Monday, May 2. Thank you!

If you haven’t had a chance to complete the survey regarding equity, we would love to get your feedback. Thank you for taking the time to fill out surveys! I am always hopeful to get as many Ryan Road voices as we can!
