Freshampton Fresh Kids Cooking for Elementary Students

Posted Date: 3/03/25 (9:16 PM)

Not only does our Freshampton program provide students with breakfast and lunch each school day, but we're also responsible for organizing farm to school programming for students in the classroom. One of those programs is our Fresh Kids Cooking program with Hope, thanks to funding from a USDA Farm to School grant and the MA Fresh Grant.

Every Kdg - 5th grade classroom gets a visit with Hope 2 - 4 times throughout the winter, learning where food comes from and how it's made, while cooking and eating! For example, the 3rd graders make pizza from scratch, starting with learning where all sorts of seeds originated, then grinding wheat seeds into flour to make the crust. Then they learn about the origins of tomatoes while they crush tomatoes for the sauce -- all the way until the last class, when they make their own pizzas to eat!

Ask your kids what they've been learning and making with Hope!
