Teachers Continue Learning about Systemic Racism
Teachers took time this summer for a two and a half day workshop held at the The Montessori School of Northampton to explore and learn about Analyzing & Understanding Systemic Racism. Put on by the Crossroads Anti Racism group, participants came from schools all around the commonwealth. With 30-40 attendants, including schools from Boston as well as in the local area, the group had many interactive opportunities, activities and conversations. Working in groups, teachers discussed common definitions of racism and how over time institutional racism became integrated in the United States. When asked how participants were hoping to use the information, some shared, “It can be used for discussing racism and asking questions while exploring it with peers and students.” Teachers from many of Northampton’s buildings volunteered their time for this conference and found it inspiring and powerful in the messages and experience.
